Harvest Fairvale Harvest Volunteers
Pre Harvest Volunteers: We need help to find trees that need to be harvested, help calling our existing database to schedule new harvests. We need help finding more equipment and people to help collect boxes and paper bags from grocery stores.
Actual Harvest Volunteers: At harvests we need lots of help too. We need harvesters, people who want to help pick, sort and pack all the fruit! We need trained Harvest Coordinators to plan and schedule harvests. We need Trained Harvest Leaders to safely lead groups during fruit tree harvests.
Post Harvest Volunteers: We need help delivering fruit to our local food bank partners. We sometimes need people to help sort and pack the fruit depending on the size of the harvest.
Support Roles: We need lots of help with support roles too! You don't even have to come to a harvest if that is not your thing.
Harvest Ambassador - represents ( us at outreach events)
Mapping (Google Maps/ GIS)
Food Preserving (Canning, dehydrating, etc.)
Gardeners- we are creating a community garden team!

We are looking for a few good interns!
One of the best ways to find a job is to develop skills and experience. When looking for jobs, what do employers search for? Experience and Skills! We are currently looking for a few good interns seeking to develop their skill set with us. We are a volunteer based organization with lots of growing room. Our intern program will help create personalized intern positions based on the skill set our interns are looking to develop for their resumes and future job hunts. We provide guidance and direction. We also provide continuing mentorship. At the end of the internship we will provide a performance evaluation, job recommendations and a recommendation letter. We are looking for college students and those looking to develop their skill sets for career changes.
The 2013 HARVEST FAIRVALE Intern Program will aid in the implementation and development of HARVEST FAIRVALE'S harvesting programs.
Time commitment: 10-20 hours per week. We have 3 month & 6 months internship positions . Location: You will be working out of your home for office work and meeting with us at local food banks, coffee houses and will be traveling throughout the Folsom, Orangevale, Fair Oaks, and Citrus Heights areas + come collaborative events in Sacramento for site visits and harvest events.
This internship is unpaid, but the rewards are many - including a great learning experience and the unique opportunity to be a part of a vibrant and growing organization.
Intern responsibilities: (HARVEST FAIRVALE (HFV)
Work with HFV volunteer staff, leaders and volunteers to plan and co-lead tree care & harvesting events
Work with HFV staff to coordinate and develop Neighborhood Harvest Teams.
Receive new tree registrations and communicate with registered tree owners
Assist volunteers with distributing fruit to people in need via food bank partners
Assist with volunteer outreach & workshop publicity, as needed
Perform related tracking, record-keeping, and data entry
Position Requirements:
Ability to engage in positive, professional manner with diverse populations, including project participants, partners, volunteers, and the general public.
Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Self-motivated and well-organized.
Flexible schedule to include many weekend events and occasional evenings.
Familiar & comfortable with computers, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to the mission/goals of the Harvest Orangevale Project.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Extra Plus Factors:
Interest or experience in urban agriculture and/or community food security
Experience working with volunteers and/or leading groups
